Naveed Sehrai's devastating second
spell and Atique Khan and Kaleem Arif control bowling
paved the way for Halton Stars to win by 8 runs in a
closely contested match against Peel India.
Oakville/Burlington,
Ontario July 6, 2009
Naveed Sehrai was the
star for Halton Stars on Sunday with three wickets in
his second spell and he started the Peel India's
downfall with his devastating bowling performance.
Captain Ali Shah and the rest of the team were happy
with the total team effort in the last 20 over to help
HSCC win another nail bitter and kept the winning streak
alive with 4th straight win.
Halton Stars won the
toss and elected to bat first, as usual Naveed Sehrai
and Captain Ali Shah opened the inning. However, in form
Ali shah tried to play a front foot shot and edge the
ball into wicket keeper’s hand as HSCC has only 8 runs
on the board. Imran Kazmi came in at 1 down but before
he settles down, he also edges the ball into keeper’s
hand. Imran Raja followed Ali and Imran Kazmi as he was
also unable to read the pace of the ball and edged it to
keeper’s hand.
The early fall of
wickets (4 wicket down for only 33 runs) forced Bilal
Khan to step in and take control of the game, while
Bilal playing patiently, Naveed also edged ball and was
caught by wicketkeeper and Halton Stars was 5 wickets
down for only 42 runs on the board. Naveed scored 20
runs.
Ghufran Ali joined
Bilal Khan and both of them frustrated the Peel India’s
bowler and slowly adding singles and doubles to get the
score past hundred. When Ghufran was unlucky in playing
a full toss and was bowled, he added 17 runs to the
total.
Youngster Varun Seth
stepped in and provided much needed support to Bilal who
showed patience in playing a captain’s inning. While
Varun was playing cautiously Bilal was creative in
stroke selection to hit boundaries in scoring his 1st
fifty of the season, an excellent batting performance
under pressure. Slowly Varun and Bilal moved the moved
the score into respectable total as Halton Stars were
all out for 162 runs. Bilal scored 62 runs with the help
of 6 fours and one six, while Varun chipped in with
valuable 30 runs.
The way Peel India
opened their inning and with the help of some drop
catches in the opening 10 overs, it seems that peel
India would achieve the target score comfortably. But
Atique Khan, Kaleem Arif played a crucial role in
controlling the run rate by bowling in the right areas
and the length and kept the Peel India batsman in check
before Naveed’s was brought back for devastating second
spell and bowled out the Peel India for 175 runs.
Naveed took 3 wickets
for 19 runs, while Atique Khan took 2 wickets for 20
runs and Kaleem Arif, Ghufran Ali and Raja Imran chip in
with one wicket each.
Naveed Sehrai and
Bilal Khan were the players of the week.
